Overview
Florida
Center for Allergy and Asthma Research specializes
in conducting clinical trials for indications of
pediatric and adult allergy and asthma. Specific
additional interests are allergic rhinitis, sinusitis,
urticaria, asthma in pregnancy, venom allergy, and
hypogammaglobulinemia. Our research center is attached
to our clinical office located in Kendall, adjacent
to Baptist Hospital. Our research team includes
three investigators, four study coordinators, and
numerous support staff. |

Clinical
Research Experience
Our
research team has more than 20 years experience
in clinical research that includes several asthma
and rhinitis trials. Most recently, we have conducted
several anti-leukotriene trials as well as a monoclonal
IV antibody trial. Our investigators and staff have
extensive experience with phase II, III, and IV
trials. Our clinical offices provide us with a database
of approximately 10,000 patients per year who suffer
from allergies and asthma. We are interested in
participating in trials for indications of asthma,
allergic rhinitis, urticaria, sinusitis, hypogammaglobulinemia,
pregnancy and asthma, food allergies, insect venom
trials and any other allergy related problems.
Some of the sponsors we have worked
with include Scherring Plough, Merck, Hoechst Marion
Roussel, Ciba-Geigy, Sandoz, Novartis, GlaxoWellcome,
Abbott, Zeneca, Rhone-Poulenc Rorer, Allen and Hanbury
and others. We have also worked with CRO's such
as Paragon, Clintrials, Covance, Clinicor, PPD Pharmaco,
Medex, IBAH and other independents.

Facility
Description
Florida
Center for Allergy and Asthma Research has a state
of the art research facility. Our center can perform
phlebotomy, skin testing, computerized spirometry,
ECG, tympanometry, and sinus ultrasound. We work
with sub-investigators who perform chest x-rays,
sinus x-rays, and antral punctures. We are involved
in many IV procedures, (most frequently IVIG) and
have recently completed an IV monoclonal antibody
study. We have all of the emergency equipment needed
for an adverse event and are located adjacent to
Baptist Hospital ER. We provide ample space for
monitors to work comfortably with phone, fax, and
copy machines readily available. Our Kendall location
is convenient to the Miami International Airport
and our office is five minutes from an excellent
Marriott Hotel among others. We are easily accessible
by car and public transportation and there are superb
shopping and restaurant facilities nearby as well.

Investigator
Experience
Michael P. Pacin, M.D.
received his medical degree from
Washington University School of Medicine and completed
his fellowship in allergy and immunology at the
University of California Irvine. Dr. Pacin has been
a principal investigator in a multitude of clinical
research trials over the past twenty years. Most
notably, he has been involved in the development
of the antihistamine, Tavist and several asthma
medications, such as Accolate and Zileutin. Dr.
Pacin is Board Certified in both Internal Medicine
and Allergy & Immunology.
Joan C. Gluck, M.D.
is certified by the American College
of Allergy and Immunology and Board eligible in
both Pediatrics and Allergy. She received her M.D.
from New York University and completed her fellowship
in Allergy and Immunology at University of Miami
Jackson Memorial Hospital. Dr. Gluck has been both
a principal and sub-investigator in several of our
studies over the last twenty years.
Jaime Landman, M.D.
has been with Florida Center for
Allergy and Asthma Research since 1994 and has been
an investigator in several of our clinical research
studies. Dr. Landman is Board Certified in both
Pediatrics and Allergy & Immunology. He is a
member of both the American College of Allergy and
Immunology and the American Academy of Allergy and
Immunology. He received his M.D. from the University
of Peru and completed his fellowship in Allergy
and Immunology at the University of Medicine and
Dentistry of New Jersey

Staff
Expertise
Sandra
Rolfs, M.P.H., P.A.-C.
is
a Physician Assistant who graduated with a Bachelors
in Science and Masters in Public Health from Nova
Southeastern University in 1996. She been a clinical
research coordinator for the past two years.

Patient
Demographics
We are located in a highly diverse urban area of more
than two million people. We have developed an extensive
patient data base due to our reputation and longevity
in the community. Our patient population is composed
of 40% pediatrics and 60% adults. We have all the
countries of South and Central America as well as
Asian, Caribbean and indigenous Indians represented
in our ethnic communities.
